Microdermabrasion works on all skin types and colors. It makes subtle changes, causing no skin color change or scarring. It is not effective for deeper problems such as scars, stretch marks, wrinkles, or deep acne scars.
With microdermabrasion, there is less down time than with dermabrasion. Skin is temporarily pink but fully recovers within 24 hours. It doesn’t require surgery or anesthetics. That may help people who cannot take “downtime” for healing.
In microdermabrasion, tiny crystals are sprayed onto the skin to gently remove the outer layer of your skin. This technique is less aggressive than dermabrasion, so you don’t need numbing medicine. It is basically an exfoliation and skin rejuvenation procedure that leaves skin looking softer and brighter.
Our Microdermabrasion Machine
Restoration MedSpa carries the PowerPeel – a medical-grade aluminum oxide crystal microdermabrasion machine. This machine can only be purchased by medical professionals and used in medical offices. With just one treatment, the PowerPeel enhances skin conditions, smooths skin texture and tone, and leaves patients with a healthy, rosy glow.
1.) Microdermabrasion is a ‘mechanical exfoliating process’, which means there are hard, physical factors used to exfoliate, or ‘polish’ the skin.
2.) There are two types of microdermabrasion machines: diamond-tip microdermabrasion and medical-grade aluminum oxide crystal microdermabrasion:
3.) During a medical microdermabrasion treatment, a licensed aesthetician operates the machine, utilizing tiny, spherical aluminum oxide crystals that are comfortably sprayed on the skin to remove and exfoliate the outer layers of skin. The crystals are gently ‘shot’ onto the skin with the sterilized microdermabrasion wand, and then the loose skin cells are suctioned up into a compartment of the machine to be hygienically disposed for after each treatment:
4.) Microdermabrasion only addresses the epidermis. The part of the epidermis that is exfoliated off is the stratum corneum, while mildly exfoliating the stratum lucidum:
5.) Microdermabrasion requires little ‘downtime’, if any at all, which means patients can immediately return to work, or go out of town for a vacation. The only down time caution is that a patient will need to be aware of sun exposure. Patients must apply and reapply a higher SPF every few hours in the microdermabraded areas for several days after treatment.
6.) Microdermabrasion treatments last approximately 60 minutes or 1 hour; in some cases, patients may require extra exfoliation, so it may take longer than the allotted time.
