Blepharoplasty in Virginia Beach

If your eyes appear to be drooping with bags over the cheeks, or if friends tell you that you look sleepy or tired, you may be a Lower Eyelid Surgerygood candidate for blepharoplasty, commonly referred to as lower eyelid surgery.

What is blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure to remove skin, and/or to add or remove fat from the eyelids. The term “eyelid lift” is a misconception because the eyelid is not lifted during this procedure.

During a lower blepharoplasty procedure, your surgeon will make either an incision directly below the lash line or an incision inside the eyelid. An incision inside the lid allows access to eyelid fat without visible incisions, making this technique perfect for patients who need fat removed or added.

The result is a more youthful appearance of the eyelid, and eyes look larger, lids less drooping, and puffiness is removed.

Am I a good candidate for blepharoplasty?

If you have baggy eyelids, and have reasonable expectations, you may be a good candidate. Your surgeon will discuss the outcome of your surgery with you.

How long is recovery from blepharoplasty surgery?

Bruising and swelling are usually worse the day following the surgery, and will quickly dissipate. Using cool compresses can greatly reduce bruising and swelling around the eyes and face. Thin bandages are usually placed over the incision sites and removed in several days, while the stitches can remain in the skin for about a week. Sometimes self-absorbing stitches are used that do not require removal. In general, people are back to normal activity in a week to ten days.
