With cosmetic surgery becoming so popular over the past couple of decades, those who thought they would never turn to cosmetic surgery to combat signs of aging on the face and neck area are now vying for noninvasive cosmetic procedures such as exclusive skin care products that target treatment of the signs of aging, laser treatments and injectable fillers.
Skin care regimens continue to play an important role in helping to maintain the appearance of younger healthier skin especially on the face and other sun exposed areas. Good skin care can delay the need for future more invasive procedures. Avoiding smoking and over-exposure to the sun is the cornerstone to healthier skin. At the same time, topical agents that make use of emollients such as Retin-A and hydroquinone can help smooth the skin and eliminate or reduce dyschromias (alterations in skin color). The aestheticians at Restoration: Skin Care & Laser Center, the skin care spa associated with our practice, can provide a cost effective and consistent regimen of these skin care products that help to prolong the appearance of healthier looking skin and the need for an invasive procedure.
Laser treatments for discolorations and superficial veins are another noninvasive treatment option. Medical facials are available with both the use of combined Laser Therapy and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL). Laser therapies are used to treat superficial spider angiomas, red and brown spots. Both options are used commonly and our staff is expert at providing safe and appropriate laser treatments for those superficial facial problems.
Injectable fillers such as Botox, Juvederm and Restylane have become extraordinarily popular. At Restoration: Skin Care & Laser Center we regularly use these agents for both reduction of wrinkle lines and the amelioration of folds in the facial skin. The fillersare most effective over the nasolabial folds where the cheek meets the upper lip and in front of the marionette lines at the area of the jowls. In addition, fillers have been extraordinarily helpful in the area of the lip lines to prevent and treat vertical lines that allow for a lipstick bleed onto the lip. In addition to Botox, Juvederm and Restylane we make judicious use of chemical peels and dermabrasions for the treatment of superficial skin problems such as beginning wrinkle lines. These relatively cost effective procedures can be easily accomplished under local anesthesia in our practice’s minor operating rooms.
Lastly, autologous fat, that is fat taken from the patient’s own body stores, can be transferred to the face and provide long-lasting and dramatic changes in facial appearance. This is especially true when there is evidence of facial hollowing and loss of skin tone. Fat injections into deeper spaces fill the face and provide a more youthful appearance. Fat, available in large quantities, has been shown to provide a very cost effective method of improving facial appearance. Fat can also be transferred with the underlying portions of the skin called the dermis as a dermal fat grafting. This longstanding procedure is very helpful in lip augmentation and sometimes useful in the regions of the nasolabial folds.
These are a few of the noninvasive procedures we provide on a regular basis at Associates in Plastic Surgery and Restoration: Skin Care & Laser Center offering an effective and relatively inexpensive way to lessen the early signs of aging and delay future invasive procedures.
