IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) is a non-laser treatment utilizing a broad spectrum intense pulsed light. At Restoration MedSpa in Virginia Beach, we can treat numerous conditions with the Cynosure Palomar Icon™.
Here are a few of the many conditions we can treat with IPL:
- Brown spots and discolorations
- Sun damage
- Blood vessels
- Acne/Acne Scarring
- Wrinkles & Skin Aging
- Skin Tightening
- Stretch Marks
- New & Old Scars
- Surgical Scars
Who is a Good Candidate?
Ideal candidates for IPL treatments are those who wish to eliminate sun-damage or discoloration to their skin for a more even skin tone. Those with deep or tanned skin have a higher risk for complications with this treatment, so a consultation with one of our clinical aestheticians is required to determine if IPL treatments can benefit you.
How Does IPL Work?
IPL differs from laser treatments in that varied wavelengths are utilized to treat a variety of skin concerns at once, while lasers employ a single concentrated wavelength. When an IPL treatment is performed, heat from the intense light is absorbed by the skin. Areas darker in nature such as age spots or vascular lesions absorb more light, thermally neutralizing the pigmented cells or coagulating the vascular lesion.
Palomar ICON FRACTIONAL LASER
This nonsurgical treatment option is ideal for clients seeking to minimize the appearance of:
- Old and new scars
- Stretch marks
- Sun spots
- Loose, lax skin
- Collagen Loss
- Surgical scarring
- Acne scars
There are little to no downtime associated with IPL treatments, though cold packs can help to reduce any swelling that may occur. They have also been shown to stimulate collagen and tighten skin over the course of weeks following a procedure. In treatment of dyschromia, or age spots, superficial crusting of the treated areas is to be expected and usually resolves within 1-2 weeks.
