How Does Age Affect Plastic Surgery?

How Does Age Affect Plastic Surgery?

As we grow old, a lot of physical changes happen to our bodies, some of which can have a serious adverse effect on our everyday lives. For instance, the wrinkles and fine lines on your face can make you look frail, sickly and unattractive. As a result, your self-esteem and the confidence to stand in front of people go down. Fortunately, plastic surgery has made it possible for people to slow down the hands of time and restore their youthful appearance when the signs of aging begin to show on their faces.

A successful plastic surgery procedure should get rid of the aging signs and give you the desired look. However, there have been numerous concerns about the longevity of the results of this procedure. While most of these cosmetic enhancements are supposed to be permanent, there are numerous factors that affect their longevity, including age. So, before you go for plastic surgery, it is important to understand how aging will affect the results. Here are some common ways in which your age will affect your plastic surgery results.

Age-related Health Conditions

While age isn’t a major concern when it comes to determining whether to go for plastic surgery or not, at times it plays a major role in determining the effectiveness of the procedure. This is so because age comes along with various health conditions such as arthritis, diabetes, osteoporosis, hypertension, Alzheimer’s disease among others. These conditions will affect the healing process and easily cause more serious health complications. That’s why it is important for you to disclose to your doctor any underlying conditions that you may have before going for the plastic surgery. Your doctor is also obligated to check your overall health before operating on you.

Longevity of Plastic Surgery Outcome

Studies have shown that plastic surgery results last longer in younger patients. A recently published report by the Journal of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery suggests that people who have surgery before age 50 enjoy long-term results. However, this doesn’t mean that patients who have the surgery when they are past 50 years do not enjoy great results. In fact, some studies have shown that patients who have a facelift at the age of 60 look extremely younger than persons who never have the surgery. Nevertheless, these patients have significantly more signs of advanced aging and relapse.

Qualification for the Surgery

Some plastic surgeries require you to have attained a certain age. For instance, rhinoplasty is not suitable for young teenagers because their noses are still at the development stage. If the procedure is done before the nose is fully developed the results will be altered as the nose continues to grow.

Hands down this is the most amazing plastic surgery office! No haggling and Dr. Jacobs will not perform a surgery if the scar exceeds the benefit. His words exactly which is exactly what I want to know ahead of time not after the surgery is done. Dr. Jacobs is a phenomenal surgeon and I trust him 150%. Felecia his nurse is as wonderful as Dr. Jacobs!!
