Liposuction patients can now rejoice! Previous studies reported that fat can regrow in areas of the body that have been treated with liposuction or direct excision. However, recent findings from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons proved that there is no evidence to support fat regrowth.
It was found that fat cells excised from the body through liposuction and procedures such as abdominoplasty are not expected to return. Why? Because the number of fat cells we are born with are constant and when they are removed in this fashion it is permanent.
However, keep in mind that liposuction and other targeted cosmetic surgeries cannot prevent a person from gaining weight. Specifically for liposuction patients, the body contouring allows for any gained weight to be distributed in a more desirable way and not in the areas from which fat cells have been removed.
