Exparel (bupivacaine/depofoam) is a recently developed, unique, long-lasting anesthetic. Prior to the arrival of Exparel, local anesthetics were injected at the time of surgery and lasted for only several hours after surgery. Exparel is injected around the surgical incisions while the patient is under anesthesia. This anesthetizes the surgical area and markedly reduces post-operative pain forTHREE DAYS. Most post surgical discomfort usually improves after the first three days.
