They have your sparkle, your intent, your emotion! If they are covered by heavy brows, or detracted from by bags and wrinkles it can ruin your appearance, making you look old or angry. Learn how Blepharoplasty and Eyelid Surgery can have you looking better than ever before!
Blepharoplasty is our term for the surgical procedure that can restore the aged eyelid to the appearance of the youthful one. By remedying the excessive skin, treating areas of bulging tissue and in some instances adding volume to the eyelid, the eyelid is made to appear more youthful and attractive. The excessive upper eyelid skin can fall upon the eyelashes. When significant portions of the world you should see are blocked by excessive eyelid skin, insurance companies may cover the repair to allow return of full fields of vision. In addition, fat designed to cushion the globe can herniate through weakened tissue and cause bags. When repairing upper lids, it is important to recreate the natural appearance of the lid by removing the herniating fat and tissue redundancy that may hinder vision or cause an “unsightly” appearance to the upper lid. Often this is associated with the eyebrow moving downward crowding eyelid skin.
Brow lifts can be combined with eyelid surgery. It is important to return the brow to the appearance of youth, lower on the nasal side higher on the lateral side with a gentle pleasing arch over the bony prominence of the orbit. These procedures frequently are done with no visible scarring, are long lasting, and also provide improvement in appearance. When brows become heavy, they too can contribute to visual field obstruction and their repair may also be covered by health insurance.
For the lower lids, tissue redundancies along with wrinkles may be removed and bulging fat excised to restore a more youthful appearance. It is also important to smooth out the line that has developed at the lower lid-cheek junction. Sometimes, these procedures can be accomplished without visible scarring through incisions on the inside of a lower lid. The combination of upper and lower blepharoplasty can offer dramatic changes in the appearance and return a youthful appearance to the eyelids. When we add brow lift we have restored the appearance of youth to the whole upper face!
