Jonathan S. JacobsDr. Jacobs received a degree from The University of Rochester in 1968 and attended Harvard School of Dental Medicine where he graduated cum laude in 1971. From 1971 through 1975, he studied at Vanderbilt University, completing a combined residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery and general surgery. He remained at Vanderbilt as the Acting Chairman of the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery until 1977, when he moved to Virginia Beach to complete a residency in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Eastern Virginia Graduate School of Medicine.

Dr. Jacobs has been practicing plastic surgery in the Hampton Roads area for the last 30 years and has been on the faculty of our medical school that entire time. Locally, he has volunteered as an interviewer for candidates for admission to Eastern Virginia Medical School and was Chairman of the Surgical Executive Committee at Sentara Leigh Hospital for seven years. Currently the Associate Professor of Clinical Plastic Surgery at EVMS, Dr. Jacobs has contributed substantially to medical literature by publishing 47 scientific papers and book chapters. He is an alumni interviewer for students wishing admission to Vanderbilt University.

As a very active member of state and national plastic surgical organizations, Dr. Jacobs was Past President of both the American Society of Maxillofacial Surgeons and the Virginia Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons. He served as Membership Chairman of The American Society of Temporomandibular Joint Surgeons. Additionally, as a member of The American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, the largest group of Plastic Surgeons in the world, he served in Board of Directors and was the Chairman of the Ethics Committee.

Board-certified in both Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Dr. Jacobs has acted as a guest examiner for The American Board of Plastic Surgeons. His current interests are in cosmetic and breast surgery, and he brings special expertise to Associates in Plastic Surgery in regard to maxillofacial surgery.

On his annual visits to Honduras, Dr. Jacobs senior surgeon for the World Pediatric Project and has volunteered his surgical care and teaching in third world countries on more than twenty such trips.
